Rock Improvers

This course is the obvious next step on from our Introductory Course, or for those with a basic level of climbing experience.

With the basic skills in place this course looks at the more advanced techniques which will lead you on to becoming a more independent climber particularly the placing of protection, setting up belay anchors, climbing and rope work on multi-pitch terrain and improving your own personal climbing technique. Our ratios are low, enabling us to cover more during the day and tailor it to suit your needs. Minimum age 16 years.

During the Rock Improvers day we will try to cover:

- Information regarding the crag in use
- Fitting harnesses and helmets
- Tying in
- Belaying
- Crag safety
- The mountain environment (if applicable)
- Movement skills
- Climbing ethics
- Use of guidebooks
- Abseiling
- Choosing appropriate venues
- Weather
- Understanding grading
- Next step – guidance as what to do on completion of course

We may not get a chance to cover every topic and if you would like information about one of the above subjects just ask your instructor on the day.

Generally the crags we use for this course are:

- Sticklebarn Crag, Langdale (Grid Ref. 294 068)
- Lower Scout Crag, Langdale (Grid Ref: 208 069)
- Hutton Roof Crag, Hutton Roof (Grid Ref: 556 775)
