External Groups & Schools
The Lakeland Climbing Centre is situated in Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District and is committed to providing the best quality and value for aspiring young climbers from all backgrounds.
The Lakeland Climbing Centre boasts the Northwest’s biggest indoor Climbing Wall. We have a large selection of walls ranging from 4m high ‘slabs’ to a 24.5m high overhanging wall, the tallest in England. In addition we have three dedicated bouldering walls and a beginners' room with top-roping and lead climbing available which is ideal for group use. Throughout the Centre we always have a number of in-situ top-ropes and up to 3 auto-belayer devices which groups are welcome to use. Two meeting rooms are available for workshops, lunches, slide shows etc. We can cater for groups with a range of menus to suit all budgets.
There are two ways to use our Centre as a visiting group; you can book instructors from us to provide teaching and supervision for your novice climbers or you can bring your own suitably qualified and insured supervisors to run your own session.
Some of the advantages of group climbing sessions at our Centre include:
· Superb facilities for group use and ease of progression for your students
Booking Lakeland Climbing Centre instructors
We can provide instruction for up to 72 people and can offer tailored sessions for whatever your aims, from fun relaxed end of term 'reward' sessions through to progressive skills development as part of a predetermined syllabus. We offer the NICAS scheme up to level 5. The pricing for one off sessions is shown under Private Sessions but do contact us to discuss your needs if planning regular sessions with us as we may be able to offer further discounts.
Bringing your own instructors
Are you an outdoor centre or do you have a member of staff working for you who is a qualified to instruct climbing?
The nationally recognised awards for instructors include:
SPA (Single Pitch Award) and CWA (Climbing Wall Award)
Prior to or on your first visit to the Centre, you must register your school or organisation. We require the relevant certificates for the instructor plus evidence that the school / organisation has Public Liability Insurance (also known as Civil or Third Party Insurance) in place that covers climbing at an indoor wall. For LEA schools, a letter from the head teacher confirming this is generally sufficient.
Independently instructed groups are charged at our members entry rates without having to pay the Membership fee (see Prices) eg Junior off peak member rate is currently £5.00. Supervisors and instructors may be charged an entry fee of £2.00 but this is waived for 'normal' ratio instruction - call the Centre if more detail is required. For example, a group of 9 children with one instructor will be charged £45.00 for unlimited time if arriving before 4.30pm on a weekday.
We can offer all the equipment you would need to hire, excluding leading ropes and quickdraws.
For school groups our Off-Peak times are extended for entry to the Centre on or before 4.30pm on weekdays.
