Ropes and Ropebags
Ropes are clearly one of the most essential climbing equipment purchases.
And there are ropes to avoid - the one that becomes as stiff as a rod after only one month, the one that is so soft you feel it's never going to hold a fall, and the rope that kinks at the wrong moment and leaves your belayer fighting furiously to feed it through the belay plate.
We have just two brands of ropes - Beal and DMM - which we have used extensively and we can vouch for their good behaviour!
Many manfacturers recommend that you use a rope for no longer than 10 years, 15 years if it has been stored for a while without use. Please be aware that it could be much shorter if your rope becomes damaged.
