"The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement."
It sounds like a very stark warning but your safety here at the Lakeland Climbing Centre is paramount and our Health and Safety record is second to none. We encourage all users of our facilities to be fully aware that rock climbing carries risks, even in an artificial indoor environment. As a business we work hard to manage those risks and we are very experienced in helping climbers to assess and manage their personal risks too.
All of our climbing instructors have a wealth of climbing experience - both personal and instructional - and we provide them with ongoing development and training in the interests of everyone's safety and wellbeing. There's also a fully qualified first aider at the Centre at all times.
Please contact us if you require a copy of our Risk Management Summary, Risk Assessments or Public Liability Insurance documentation.
We hold a licence for the provision of rock climbing and hillwalking activities in accordance with the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations, Licence number L10009/R2020 Climbing/Trekking, call AALA on 02920755715 to confirm details if required.
Safe clothing for climbing at Kendal Wall, the Lakeland Climbing Centre
We recommend comfortable light weight clothing and clean well fitting training shoes (no dresses or skirts please). Climbing shoes are available for hire if required.
A warm fleece or sweater may be needed as climbing requires a cooler environment than most leisure facilities to minimise sweaty hands.
It is advisable to tie long hair back.
On arrival at the Centre it is advisable to take off jewellery and check that pockets are empty before climbing.
