Kendal Mountain Festival comes to Kendal Wall

Posted in Monthly Diary

The Kendal Mountain Festival is the biggest of its kind in the world, and here at the Lakeland Climbing Centre we are pleased to be part of this marvellous event.

The KMF is not just about films, this year there are many events for all those mountain users out there and we are pleased to announce we are offering some fantastic practical events to benefit all those who just love being on the hill.

The first of these will be a series of free alpine skills workshops with British Mountain Guides

The workshops will offer a chance to learn some ropework required by climbers tackling a trip to the Alps. There will be 3 x 30 min separate sessions on crevasse rescue, prussiking and roping up for glaciers and ridges.

These will start at 10am on Saturday 17 November, please contact us here at the Wall (01539 721766) to book your place.  There is no entry fee for the sessions but those wishing to stay on and climb will benefit from a special reduced Festival goers fee of £5.

Over the whole weekend there will be Climbing Workshops with the Association of Mountain Instructors (AMI) here at the Lakeland Climbing Centre. This is an ideal opportunity to further your climbing skills!

Workshops last for one hour and are as follows:

Climbing Improver

If you’ve done a bit of climbing but could do with a tune up on your movement technique or your ropework, you’ll be able to learn some top tips and handy hints from the experts. Aimed at novice to intermediate climbers.

Self Help for Climbers

Lock off your belay plate, in reach or not, now what ? A workshop of basic rescue techniques for those moments when it all goes pear shaped. Top advice about slick rope work and tangle free rescues. Aimed at intermediate climbers with outside climbing experience.

There are 6 places available on each workshop.
